Catholic Education Sunday (CES) has been celebrated annually since 2017, bringing together the Archdiocese of Singapore’s educational community, which forms 50,000-over students from nursery, pre-school and primary school to secondary school and junior college.
In 2017, at the inaugural Catholic Education Sunday themed “Celebrating 165 Years of Catholic Education in Singapore – Passing on the Light”, ACCS then Chairman Tan Cheng Han stated: “An event such as this is a sign of our commitment to reconnect with the wider Catholic community, especially the parishes that our schools are close to. The parish-school link was a source of strength in the past and something that we should try to rebuild. This represents a modest beginning to us re-journeying together.”
Catholic Education Sunday highlights the crucial tripartite communion between school, parish and home, with staff, students and parents participating in the liturgy. It is also a celebration for the non-Catholic community within Catholic schools, recognising their service to our wider society.
